Naomi Thompson, of the Vintage Mafia and Vintage Secret fame, has a brand new book out in the Style Me Vintage series about vintage clothing.

In Style Me Vintage: Clothes, Naomi goes over the elements and different styles from the ‘20s right through to the ‘80s, and emphasizes not how to fully recreate a 100% authentic vintage look, but how to incorporate vintage into your own style.

Trend Report: This year’s must have detailing…fringe!

Scour the covers and pages of any magazine on news stands now and you’re sure to see fringe. Fringe has taken over as this year’s go-to detail for everything from handbags, to dresses, to shirts, and even shoes. Here at The Orchid Boutique, we’re certainly seeing our fair share of fringe as well. We spotted a perfect collage by Who What Wear featuring some top celebrities donning fringe embellished frocks, including Zoe Saldana and Camilla Belle. While the fashion blog compares these styles to those reminiscent of the roaring 1920’s when flapper dresses ruled every woman’s wardrobe, we love the modern versions of dresses and tunics with fringe.

Thursday’s Trend: Bringing Theatre to the Wedding Reception

There’s no missing the distinct, classic Tiffany blue. Many brides-to-be love the idea of incorporating it into their wedding. Some couples pick a wedding reception theme based off a movie (i.e. Water for Elephants, Alice in Wonderland, Breakfast at Tiffany’s).

Why not step it up a notch? Hang a huge white tarp or sheet (or use a wall) and project a movie off it. Most people know the lines to the classic movies, so it’s ok to keep the music, dancing and conversation flowing.
